Agile Leverage’s own Corey Post will be speaking at Affiliate Summit East ‘14 in New York City this month. The idea of a marketing conference focused on one topic – affiliate marketing, in this case – raises an interesting observation: there’s a lot to keep up with for today’s marketers!
How are content marketing and content strategy different? What’s the latest social media platform your customers are using? Is this meeting about CTRs or CTAs? It’s a whirlwind of new strategies and new opportunities around every corner, and in order to keep up with competitors and consumers you need to stay on top of things. That’s why it’s nice when marketing events focus on one subject. It may seem limited at first, but what it really does is allow experts to delve into a topic to give it the attention it deserves. You aren’t getting a brief talk or cursory lesson on one topic before moving onto the next, which might be something completely different; instead, you’re getting a full day (or more) of diving into one area of expertise to learn the latest news, skills, and strategies you need to make sure that subject is useful to your business.
A conference like Affiliate Summit is the perfect place to brush up on your skills and add a new weapon to your marketing arsenal. Affiliate Summit East is a three-day conference that covers all things affiliate marketing whether you’re there to learn about the latest industry news and strategies from expert speakers or building an invaluable network, it’s certainly something that’s worth checking out.
What is Affiliate Marketing?
Put simply, in affiliate marketing a business partners with affiliates, and those affiliates use their own advertising efforts to drive consumers to the business; the affiliate is then rewarded by the business by meeting agreed upon metrics. The goal of affiliate marketing, like any marketing, is to grow a business. Affiliate marketing allows a business’ reach to grow well beyond their own website and social media platforms.
There are typically four players in affiliate marketing:
- Merchants – That’s you! You’re the one trying to sell a product or service, and you need to get the word out.
- Networks – The go-between for merchants and publishers. Affiliate networks allow you to easily connect with publishers and can handle things like payment between the two parties.
- Publishers – Better known as affiliates. This is who will be promoting your product on their site, whether it’s through ads or special offers.
- Consumers – These are the people buying your product or service – the actual customers you’re trying to reach.
The ideal end result of affiliate marketing is a growth in leads or actual purchases. Many affiliate programs are set up to measure these results and work on a “pay for performance” model, meaning that you’re only paying for results and not for advertising that isn’t benefiting your business.
How Can Affiliate Summit Help?
Affiliate Summit defines its mission as “providing educational sessions on the latest industry issues and fostering a productive networking environment for affiliate marketers.” It brings together representatives from each of the “business” sectors of affiliate marketing – merchants, networks, and publishers – allowing everyone involved to have a voice, learn about the industry, and make great connections.
Affiliate Summit defines its mission as “providing educational sessions on the latest industry issues and fostering a productive networking environment for affiliate marketers.”
Affiliate Summit East takes place August 10-12, and those three days are packed with content. One of the first presentations highlights a Super Affiliate Toolkit for WordPress – the perfect primer to learning how to supercharge your WordPress site. Other topics include learning how monetize your site, link building, content strategy, and lead generation. The topics range from beginner-level to advanced, so you’ll be able to pick something up regardless of your familiarity with affiliate marketing.
Of course, nearly as important as learning at conferences – if not more so – is networking! Affiliate Summit is no different; whether you’re looking to launch or grow affiliate marketing for your company, you’ll find a wealth of useful connections. According to Affiliate Summit, nearly a third of attendees are affiliates and 26% are merchants. That’s a lot of people looking to sell and even more looking to publish. Even better, the Summit dedicates time for a “Meet Market” to allow you to network face-to-face, meaning you’re guaranteed an opportunity to make connections.
Affiliate Summit also has a breakdown of affiliate attendees by sales (products or services) vs lead generation; those numbers come out to 61% of affiliate attendees and 39%, respectively. Again, this means that people with different goals and different strategies are well represented at each Summit, so you’ll be able to find whatever sort of partner you’re looking for.
